Warren County Budget Proposal Public Hearing

Warren County’s proposed 2023 budget features higher spending and an increase in the total tax levy, but a lower overall tax rate for county property owners — for the third straight year. The Sun Community News reports the budget is subject to a final vote following a public hearing on the spending plan set for 10 a.m. Nov. 18 at the county Municipal Center.

Ballot Issues In Washington County

Staff at the Washington County Board of Elections is reporting issues on ballots that they weren’t all scanning properly Tuesday. WNYT reports the commissioner confirmed a printing issue for some of the ballots at more than one site in the district, impacting voters in Argyle, Cambridge, Dresden, Easton, Fort Ann, Granville and Fort Edward. The board of elections says they’re on top of this, and guarantees voters that every one casted will be counted.

Democrat Kathy Hochul has become the first woman elected New York governor, winning the office outright that she took over in 2021 when former Gov. Andrew Cuomo resigned. She defeated Republican congressman Lee Zeldin, an ally of Donald Trump who ran a campaign focused on fear of violent crime.
Democrat Letitia James has been elected to a second term as New York’s attorney general, an office she has used to pursue former President Donald Trump and a list of other powerful targets.

Vote Set Next Month On Lake George Transportation Center

It’s undersized and outdated now but the bus garage owned and operated by Lake George School District — situated in the middle of a residential neighborhood — is to be replaced by a modern transportation center, if district voters approve a proposed $13.5 million project. The Sun Community News reports as of Nov. 6, a public presentation of the proposed project was to be held at 7 p.m. Nov. 9, and a vote by residents of the school district is set for Dec. 6.

Public Hearing Set On County Budget

The Warren County Board of Supervisors set a public hearing on Friday, November 18 for comments on the 2023 budget for Warren County. The proposed $184 million budget would bring a countywide tax rate decrease, though tax rates for specific towns and the City of Glens Falls are contingent on equalization rates. The public hearing will be held at Warren County Municipal Center as part of the monthly Board of Supervisors meeting, starting at 10 a.m.

Granville Groups Get Grants

Several community organizations in Granville are set to get a significant financial boost, thanks to monies being awarded by a foundation built to help them stay strong. This week, the Granville Community Foundation will be distributing $36,410 in grant funding to four organizations for the second half of 2022. The awards were granted by the Glens Falls Foundation, of which the Granville Community Foundation is a sub-fund, reports WTEN.

Lake George Woman, Queensbury Man Arrested

State Police of Wilton arrested Linda L. Marshall, 52, of Lake George, NY, on a warrant for failing to appear in Moreau Town Court on September 14, 2022, and additional charges of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance and Bail Jumping. Also, on October 31, 2022, State Police of Wilton arrested Jeremy M. Jock, 37, of Queensbury, NY, for Criminal Impersonation and Identity Theft. On October 29, 2022, Troopers Stopped a vehicle on Main Street in Moreau, NY, for multiple violations of the Vehicle and Traffic Law. The driver provided false identifying information during the interview and, due to further investigation, was later identified as Jock. Marshall was a passenger in the vehicle and was arrested on an active warrant. She was found to possess a glass pipe containing drug residue when taken into custody on scene. Jock was arrested on October 31, 2022, on Indiana Avenue in the town of Queensbury, NY.

Greenwich Woman Arrested On Assault Charges

State Police of Greenwich arrested Amanda E. Emery for attempted Assault . On September 29, 2022, Troopers responded to a residence in Jackson, NY, to assist EMS. While on the scene, Emery struck and intentionally spit on an EMS technician while they were attempting to provide her aid. Emery was transported to SP Greenwich for processing. She was issued an appearance ticket returnable to Jackson Town Court on November 10, 2022.
