Hashing Out New Taxi Law In Glens Falls

Glens Falls’ proposed changes to its taxi law drew support from a local cab company on Tuesday. The Post Star reports
Mary Gooden, the Common Council member representing the Fifth Ward, has been working with other council members, local taxi companies and citizens on updating the outdated prices. The new proposed base rate will be $15.

Hudson Falls Woman Arrested On Drug Counts

State Police of Queensbury arrested Rachel M. Cenate, 31, of Hudson Falls, NY, on a warrant and for Criminal Possession of a Controlled substance, On November 8, 2022, at about 2:50 p.m., Troopers attempted to locate Cenate on an active warrant issued by the Queensbury Town Court. She was found at a home in Queensbury and was arrested. Cenate was found to be in possession of multiple illegal drugs when she was taken into custody.

Area Woman Honored For Action On Fishing Boat

An ocean fishing cruise — a recent weekend getaway for Chestertown’s Jessica MacMillen and family — turned into an emergency situation the MacMillens and dozens of other anglers will never forget. The Sun Community News reports on Sept. 3 while on a charter fishing boat on the Atlantic ocean far from its dock in New Hampshire, Jessica MacMillen, a cardiac and stroke nurse, utilized her experience to aid two men who coincidentally suffered near-simultaneous critical medical emergencies. On Nov. 11, American Legion Post 964 officials presented MacMillen with a statewide Legion award for her heroism.

Money For Lake George Property Owners To Upgrade Septic

Warren County government has reopened the application process for property owners to obtain grant funding for septic system improvements in the Lake George watershed — and up to $10,000 is available to people who undertake such upgrades.
The Sun Community News reports Warren County has been awarded $635,000 this year to fund additional septic improvement projects in the Lake George watershed.

Fort William Henry Field Of Flags

People from all over the region and from neighboring states gathered Nov. 11 to honor veterans and active U.S. service members by attending Fort William Henry’s annual Field of Flags event. The Sun Community News reports about 100 people attended the annual Veterans Day ceremony that featured thousands of U.S. flags covering the west lawn of Fort William Henry Resort. This year, the ceremony honored 9,016 veterans and service personnel, an increase of about 1,200 from last year.

Queensbury Tree Arrives At Rockefeller Center

An iconic sign of Christmas arrived in New York City on Saturday as a crane hoisted an 82-foot (25-meter) Norway spruce into place at Rockefeller Plaza, where the 14-ton tree will be festooned with thousands of lights and topped with a star encrusted with millions of crystals. The Christmas tree will be officially lit on Nov. 30. The approximately 90-year-old tree was cut Thursday then lifted onto a flatbed truck for its 200-mile trip from Queensbury.

Skeleton-Masked Suspect Robs Queensbury Store

Investigators in Queensbury need your help identifying a suspect in an armed robbery. WNYT reports the suspect wearing a skeleton mask robbed the Cumberland Farms on Quaker Road just after midnight Wednesday morning. The suspect showed a handgun and demanded money. No one was hurt and the suspect ran from the store.

Man Dies In Warren County Crash

A man has died after crashing his car in Johnsburg. According to authorities, 32 year old Jacob Gilbert lost control of his car on Peaceful Valley Road around 4:30 p.m. Wednesday. His car went off the road, hit several trees and flipped over and Gilbert was pronounced dead at the scene. No word on what led to the crash.

Some Guns Stolen In Washington County Recovered

Eleven of the 32 guns stolen from Calamity Jane’s on Oct. 21 have been recovered, along with the shotgun stolen a week before. More arrests have been made in connection with the heist from the Kingsbury gun store.
This investigation also uncovered approximately 10 oz. of cocaine, 500 bags of heroin and assorted pills, investigators say.

Queensbury Armed Robbery Under Investigation

The Warren County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an armed robbery which took place just after midnight Wednesday at the Cumberland Farms on Quaker Road in the town of Queensbury. According to WTEN, the suspect displayed a handgun and demanded money. The suspect was wearing a full face mask, gloves, red shoes and red jacket. No one was injured, and the suspect fled the store.
