Driver Shortage Prompts Route Suspension In Glens Falls

The city of Glens Falls announced changes to its bus schedule, starting effective Friday, Dec. 16. Bus routes are being shortened due to a shortage of bus drivers. WTEN reports Route 4 connects Glens Falls to Hudson Falls and Fort Edward, running along Quaker Road and Quaker Boulevard. It impacts the weekday route leaving Ridge Street in Glens Falls at 11:30 a.m., 1:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. Also, Routes 11 and 12 run along Upper Glen Street and they are suspended for the time being.

Lake Luzerne Man Faces Grand Larceny Counts

State Police of Chestertown arrested Michael D. Riley, 19, of Lake Luzerne, NY, for Grand Larceny. On November 21, 2022, at about 8:23 p.m., Troopers received a complaint that a debit card was used without permission. The investigation determined Riley used a debit card named to another, spending over $1,500 without their consent. Riley was arrested and processed at SP Queensbury. He’ll be back in court Wednesday.

Public Hearing Thursday On Culvert Project

Warren County Department of Public Works will host a public meeting Thursday, December 15th to discuss proposals to replace the culvert carrying Clendon Brook under Corinth Road, also known as Warren County Route 28. The culvert is located between the Corinth Road intersections with Sherman Island Road and Van Dusen Road.
The meeting will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the West Glens Falls Emergency Squad building at 86 Luzerne Road in Queensbury.

Comptroller Says 14% Of New Yorkers Live In Poverty

Almost 2.7 million New Yorkers, or 13.9% of the state’s population, lived in poverty in 2021, compared to 12.8% of all Americans, according to the first in a series of reports released recently by State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli examining “New Yorkers in Need.” While poverty rates in the state declined prior to the pandemic, they were higher in 2021 than in 2019.

Man Indicted For Allegedly Setting Hudson Falls Fires

A Washington County grand jury on Thursday morning indicted the man accused of setting the October fire that destroyed a Hudson Falls apartment building and left more than a dozen people without a place to live. WNYT reports, according to prosecutors, Peter Lemery started the fire inside 11 Maple Street, where he lived.

Motorcycle Driver In Deadly Lake George Crash Rejects Plea Deal

The Albany man accused of driving a motorcycle while impaired by drugs and alcohol and killing two people in Lake George turned down a deal Thursday that could ultimately send him to prison for the rest of his life. WNYT reports Anthony Futia is accused of crashing a motorcycle into a group of people in Lake George and killing an 8-year-old boy and his stepfather.

‘Hoops For Hospice’ In Lake George

The basketball players of Lake George High School are raising funds to pay toward hospice services for families who might not otherwise be able to afford them. The Sun Community News reports the series of fundraisers is titled “Hoops for Hospice.” The fundraisers are to be held on Dec. 14, 16 and 18 in conjunction with six Lake George basketball home games.

Washington County Convicted Killer Will Remain Behind Bars

A man convicted of murdering his own grandmother in 2017 will stay behind bars. WNYT reports Kevin Gonyea asked an appellate court to throw out his conviction for strangling 95-year-old Leona Twiss with a towel. Gonyea argued his defense counsel was ineffective when he pled guilty to murder in 2018. The appellate court disagreed – ruling Gonyea’s contention was without merit.

Two Arrested In Fake Credit Card Case

State Police of Queensbury arrested 39 year old Jorge Estrada Perez and 33 year old Wilmay Carrasco Rodriguez, both of New Jersey Troopers received a complaint from the Fastrac Cafe in Queensbury, NY, reporting the use of fraudulent credit cards to make purchases at the location. The responsible individuals left the store in a vehicle before law enforcement arrived. They were located a short time later, traveling on I-87 in Malta, NY, where a traffic stop was conducted and they were taken into custody.

Taking A Hard Look At Water Supply In Lake George

How to continue to provide an adequate supply of municipal water for the growing population of the town and village of Lake George is now being addressed by the two local governments. The Sun Community News reports at their November meeting, the town of Lake George passed a resolution to pursue a water district feasibility study, which is to occur simultaneously with the village’s analysis of their water system analysis.
