Lehigh Hanson Cement Discloses Layoff Dates

Lehigh Hanson Cement Co., which is closing its local plant next year, will begin layoffs in April, to be completed by the end of 2023. The Post Star reports the company has notified the state Department of Labor that it will lay off all 85 employees as it closes the plant on Warren Street in Glens Falls and Queensbury, with most of the employees laid off between April 3 and April 17.

Two Face Charges For Lying About Identity In Queensbury

Two people are facing charges, accused of lying about their identity. According to WNYT, State police in Queensbury have arrested Donald Tomlinson and Brianna Bouley. When they approached the duo, they both gave troopers false information and both had active warrants for their arrest. Police say the duo tried to run, but both were caught.

Bridge Closure In Warren County

The Warren County Department of Public Works is advising motorists of a closure of a portion of Dippikill Road, at the intersection with Glen Creek Road, in the Town of Johnsburg, effective immediately. All traffic is advised to use the signed detour route that includes New York State Route 28, Glen-Athol Road (Warren County Route 13) and Parker Cross Road.
The bridge carrying Dippikill Road over Glen Creek is owned by Warren County, was built in 1977 and is scheduled for replacement starting in the spring of 2023. Deterioration of steel structural elements has led to reductions in allowable loads over the bridge in recent years.

Suspect Arrested In Hudson Falls Bank Robbery

A suspect has been caught in Tuesday’s Hudson Falls bank robbery. Harry Franklin is accused of walking into the TD bank at 14 Main Street and demanding money. He then left with cash, say police. There is no word yet on the exact charges he is facing.

Public Hearing In Warrensburg

A public hearing is to be held by the Warrensburg town board at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 28 on a proposed local law that would allow town Water & Sewer Collection Clerk Joyce Reed to retain her position while she serves as a town board member. The Sun Community News reports Reed was elected to the town board to fill the unexpired term of Donne-Lynn Winslow who recently retired from the position.

States With Highest Monthly Natural Gas Bills

MoneyGeek expects customers to see their natural gas bills up about 33% this year. It ranks New York as the state with the sixth highest energy costs with average monthly gas bills at 210 dollars per month, an increase from last year of about $37 dollars a month. Oklahoma sits atop the list with average monthly natural gas bills of just over $300.

Whitehall Man Cuffed For Fake Fire Call

State Police of Granville arrested Brad M. Gordon, 38, of Whitehall, NY, for Falsely Reporting an Incident. On December 5th , Fort Edward 911 received a call and dispatched Troopers to the area of County Road 18 in Whitehall, NY, for the reports of a fully involved structure fire. Upon arrival, no fire or emergency was observed. The investigation determined Gordon called 911 while at the Stewarts shop on Poultney Street in Whitehall, NY and falsely reported the fire.

Seeing snow in the region expected to move out by Saturday morning with snowfall amounts varying widely across the area based on elevation. Snowfall amounts of 18 to 24 inches will be likely in the Catskills, southern Adirondacks and southern Vermont. In the valleys, where rain mixes in, 5 to 10 inches will be likely. Snowfall rates could reach as high as 1 inch per hour especially in the higher elevations.

Lake George Conservationist Jeff Killeen Dies

On Wednesday morning, the Lake George Association reported the passing of a critical figure in its history of conservation. Jeff Killeen passed away on Wednesday, leaving behind a legacy of advocacy and work to keep Lake George clean – one that he helped to shape into its current form. WTEN reports Killeen’s time with lake preservation started with a group that would eventually form half of the modern Lake George Association. He served as the chairman of The FUND for Lake George, a conservation group that he led in science-guided lake quality protection, starting in 2011.

Developer Eyes Lake George For Residential Project

Real estate developer Richard Schermerhorn is going before the Lake George Planning Board with his plans for another housing development nearby. Schermerhorn has a development planned for Bloody Pond Road in the town of Lake George consisting of “44 multi-family units, for a total of 11 buildings with four units.” Those plans also include a new private road, one parking space and a garage per unit, stormwater management, overall landscaping and extensive buffering from adjacent neighbors, according to the Post Star.
