Reimbursement For Power Outages
Customers who have experienced a National Grid power outage for 72 or more consecutive hours are eligible to request reimbursement for loss of food and/or medication. The reimbursement requests must be filed within 14 days of the restoration of power and those eligible will automatically receive a $25 bill credit for each subsequent 24-hour period of the outage and may be eligible for reimbursement due to food and/or prescription medication spoilage.

Warren County Wants STR Tax Registrations
The Warren County Treasurer’s Office is asking owners of properties used for “short-term rental” who have not registered under Warren County’s Occupancy Tax Law to do so as soon as possible.
Warren County has been working with a contractor to identify properties that have not registered as required by law to collect the county’s 4 percent occupancy tax fee on overnight stays.
New Year’s Day Polar Plunge In Lake George
The village of Lake George has confirmed that the annual New Year’s Day Polar Plunge is set and ready to go at Shepard Park Beach in the village. Held from noon to 3 p.m., the plunge is an annual challenge for anyone who wants to ring in the new year with a cold shock. WTEN reports registration on the morning of the plunge is $10, with all proceeds benefitting Lake George Volunteer Fire Department and Springfield Shriners Hospital.
Glens Falls Parking Rules Take Effect Again Sunday
The City of Glens Falls will once again be enforcing parking regulations starting on Sunday, January 1, 2023, for the first time since the pandemic started in March 2020. WTEN reports to prepare residents, workers, and visitors of the city, police officers have been providing warning messages since October on cars that were parked for too long in one spot.
Monday Fire In Hudson Falls
Firefighters in Hudson Falls battled a fire in the bitter cold in on Monday. WNYT reports no one was injured, but the two-family home was destroyed. The call came just after 10:45 am for a fire at the home at 29 Delaware Avenue.
Hudson Falls, Fort Edward, Kingsbury, and Queensbury firefighters responded. Investigators will now look into whether the fire was an accident, which is standard procedure.
Pot Brownies Surface At Local High School
Some discipline problems have been occurring recently at Johnsburg, prompting concern among school administrators and some community members. In response to the incidents, school officials have asked parents to help prevent future problems.
Sun Community News reports marijuana-spiked brownies were shared among some students in the high school in early December, and the sheriff’s department responded to the incident.
Hochul Signs Disaster Preparedness Legislation
Gov. Kathy Hochul has signed a legislative package to improve disaster preparedness efforts across New York State. One measure exempts certain utility and other workers from travel bans during declared emergencies. Another requires the state to make a plan for the delivery of medicine and medical supplies to pharmacies, hospitals, and nursing homes during declared disasters. Yet another assures that individuals who use certain medical devices have access to electricity during emergencies.
Two Warren County Residents Recognized By Office For The Aging
Every year the New York State Office for the Aging honors two people in each county for their assistance to senior citizens in their county. Betsy Kagey of Glens Falls was selected for her efforts to assist Warren County NY Public Health during the COVID-19 pandemic. Also, Gene Merlino of Lake Luzerne, not for his role as Town Supervisor, but for the work he’s done helping seniors.
