A 73-year-old Queensbury man is accused of bringing narcotics into the correctional facility. WRGB reports an investigation determined that Keith D. Powell brought narcotics into Washington County Jail during his visit there on Wednesday. He’s charged with Promoting Prison Contraband and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance.

Queensbury BBQ Closes Permanently
Streaking Moose BBQ, located at 990 Route 149 in Queensbury, has permanently closed. The restaurant made the announcement in a Facebook post on July 23. WTEN reports Streaking Moose BBQ was a seasonal operation, with the restaurant being open from mid-May to late-September. The Northway Brewing Co. food truck, which had partnered up with Streaking Moose BBQ, has also closed for now.
Argyle Man Accused Of Torching Own Business
Colonie Police reported the arrest of an Argyle man following an arson investigation. Cody Shields, 33, is accused of setting his own Colonie business on fire. WTEN reports on June 8, 2023, police received a call around 5 a.m. from Shields reporting a structure fire at the Big Body Butcher Shop on Central Avenue, which Shields owned. Firefighters were able to extinguish the flames quickly, but the business suffered extensive damage and never reopened.
Warren County Deploys Bass To Eliminate Goldfish In Pond
Warren County officials got creative when they found themselves struggling to rid a school of goldfish in one of the ponds in the man-made wetlands at Charles Wood Park. Someone apparently dumped an aquarium into the pond, and the goldfish took root. Now largemouth bass are being deployed into the pond to help eliminate the goldfish, which can cause a number of issues as a non-native species in the water.
Storms Lead To Power Outages In Warren County
At least four thousand power outages were reported north of Glen Falls Wednesday night, according to National Grid.
As of 10:42 PM, many of the outages were concentrated on the western shores of Lake George. WRGB reports the outages were reported after thunderstorms moved through the area.
New Accountant, Bookkeeper In Warrensburg
Two people have taken on two prominent positions in Warrensburg town government due to recent resignations. Sun Community News reports Doris Gargan of Chestertown is now serving as Warrensburg’s Accountant/Bookkeeper, and Joyce Reed has added the duties of Town Supervisor’s Confidential Secretary to her present work as Sewer & Water Collections Clerk. Gargan replaced Patricia Monahan, who was Warrensburg’s Bookkeeper/Grants Administrator for more than 17 years.
Cambridge CSD Adopts No-Cellphone Policy For Students
At the start of the 2024-2025 school year, the Cambridge Central School District will no longer be able to use their phones or any other electronic devices during the school day. WTEN reports the district will use Yondr pouches. Students’ phones will be locked in a magnetically sealed pouch to cut down on distractions in the classroom. The district will hold a family forum about the new policy and the adoption of Yondr pouches at 6:30 p.m. Thursday in the high school’s main auditorium.
Nine Lake George Islands Camping Sites Reopening
DEC will reopen nine camping and day-use sites in the Narrow Island group of Lake Geroge Islands that were closed due to storm damage. WTEN reports two campsites on Hatchet Island and seven on Floating Battery Island are reopening Wednesday following storm damage to eight islands on the evening of July 16.
Lawmakers Ask State To Reconsider Great Meadow Closing
State legislators are asking New York to reconsider the plan to close Great Meadow Correctional Facility.
The Department of Corrections told the prison’s approximately 650 employees last Thursday morning.
State Senators Dan Stec and Jake Ashby and Assemblyman Matt Simpson have sent a letter to Corrections asking they reconsider, saying the closing will “further damage an already economically fragile region to undermining the safety of officers, staff and inmates…”
Four Arrested After Drugs Found In Vehicle During Glens Falls Traffic Stop
Glens Fall Police announced that four people are facing multiple charges following a traffic stop. Mark McFarlane, of Poughkeepsie, Felicia Benedict-Hillman, of Johnstown, Beverly Singletary, of Gloversville, and Shawnda Seelow, also of Gloversville, were all arrested on Friday. WTEN reports on July 19 just after 1 p.m., police pulled over a car on Lawrence Street for a vehicle and traffic law violation. During the stop, officers reportedly recovered narcotics inside the car resulting in the arrest of all occupants.
