Ice Castles In Lake George Need Mother Nature’s Cooperation

Mother Nature has made it hard to make ice and the operators of Ice Castles in Lake George are doing their best despite what they’re calling “unprecedented warmth.” According to WNYT, they’ve been hoping to open on Jan. 27, but said that opening date is now looking less likely. Ticket holders will be contacted by the end of the week.

Woman Charged With Stealing From Lake Luzerne Business

State police arrested Karen Heibler, 48 of Fair Haven, Vermont on January 13. Heibler allegedly stole money from a business she worked for from 2021 to 2022. WTEN reports back in September, police received a complaint from a Lake Luzerne business that an employee had been stealing money from the business. Police determined Heibler who worked for the company in a secretarial position, collectively took over $28,000 from the company without authorization. Police explain Heibler also modified business records to hide the theft.

MLK Honored In Glens Falls

Representatives from the city of Glens Falls led a small ceremony honoring Martin Luther King Jr. Day. City Mayor Bill Collins was joined at City Hall by Ward 5 Councilwoman Mary Gooden and Rev. Leonard Oates of Faith Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church. WTEN reports the mayor said in a speech, “Tomorrow, we work to further the vision of a more just, humane, equitable world, beginning right here in Glens Falls.”

Cambridge Man Busted On Kiddie Porn Counts

State Police of Greenwich arrested Damian J. Waterman, 28, of Cambridge for Promoting a Sexual Performance by a Child, and Criminal Possession of a Sexual Performance by a Child. Waterman is accused of possessing and promoting images consistent with child sexual exploitation via a mobile device. His arrest followed an investigation and the execution of a search warrant on his home this week. The investigation stemmed from a cyber tip received through the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.

Ballston Spa Preps For Chocolate Fest

Last year the event drew more than 1,500 visitors and Ballston Spa is now gearing up for its eighth Chocolate Fest for area restaurants, bakeries and chefs to showcase their talents. There are three categories: sweet, savory and chocolate beverage. The festival runs from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on February 3 in some 20 sweet spots in the downtown area.

Glens Falls PD Probes Trio Of Armed Robberies

Police in Glens Falls are asking people to stay vigilant, after three attempted armed robberies over just 36 hours. The most recent one was Thursday morning around 1 a.m. at the intersection of Bay Street and Union Street. WNYT reports two others happened Tuesday night around 11:30, near Larose Street and Broad Street, as someone dressed in black clothing, wearing a black face mask, walked up to people pointing a gun and demanded money.

More Money For Lake George Septic System Improvements

Warren County has received another round of New York State funding for septic system improvements for properties in the Lake George watershed, and applications are being accepted from property owners who want to upgrade their equipment to better protect the environment.
This money is in addition to funding that was received last year, which funded 36 septic system improvement/replacement projects. New York State determines which watersheds are eligible.

Warren County Office of Emergency Services is advising residents of particularly dangerous ice conditions this winter as temperatures stay mild.
With more rain and continued warm weather in the forecast later this week, those planning to venture onto frozen waters in Warren County should be aware that the ice that has formed on most lakes and ponds is most likely thin and can be unsafe to be on.
The Warren County Marine Rescue team pulled a 74-year-old Queensbury resident from Glen Lake on Tuesday morning after he broke through ice while skating.

Cambridge Man Facing Charges In Stolen Vehicle Case

A Cambridge man was arrested on Wednesday for allegedly being in possession of a stolen car, which he crashed after fleeing police. 43 year old Joseph Brandmeyer faces a slew of charges after police got word that a car stolen from Bennington was spotted on Hoosick Street in Troy. He eventually crashed the car into another car on Hoosick Street near the intersection of 21st Street, suffering minor injuries.

Skater Rescued On Glen Lake

The Warren County Marine Rescue Team was called to Glen Lake on Tuesday morning after a man broke through thin ice while skating. The members of this team, made up of volunteer firefighters from around the county, risked their lives and successfully rescued the individual from about 150 yards offshore. He was in the water for 15-20 minutes and was expected to recover.
