The village of Whitehall has decided to disband its police department. WNYT reports the Village Board on Tuesday made the decision in a unanimous 5-0 vote. In the past year, five full-time officers of the small department have taken jobs elsewhere, leaving only nine part-time officers. The Washington County Sheriff’s Office will help assist in providing police coverage.
