The Warren County Sheriff’s Office NY is warning area businesses about a new credit card scam that has been targeting hotels in the Lake George Region.
A number of hoteliers have reported a scam where rooms are reserved using stolen credit cards, with the thieves then cancelling the reservations and having the charges refunded to a different credit card to essentially “steal” the refund. (When the reservation is made, the card hasn’t yet been reported stolen.)
Business owners should ensure that refunds go only to the credit or debit card used to make a reservation.
